Julius Granström
Born 1987 Lohja, Finland.
Studied fine arts at the Pekka Halosen akatemia, Tuusula, Finland.

I call my art UTOPIA ART - as a simple idea is to make art which is enjoyed in the future utopia - provocative, paradoxical, unique, beautiful, intellectual and hedonistic, carnevalistic and influenced by voodoo and religions.

I have had two exhibitions in 2009 Connecting People, at restaurant Rytmi in Helsinki and 2010, Nokia, God, Islam, Porn at Koivula Kartano (Manor /Country house) in Lohja. My career as an artist is still at the beginning, however, I could to say that I already know pretty much what I want to make art, even if it does not show already at the portofolio. My art is in my own collection and a few private collections.

What you think are the most interesting things in contemporary art?

A work of art as a commodity – Damien Hirst, Takashi Murakami, Jeff Koons, Andy Warhol and all blue-chip art.

Art as religion, altar, ritual, fetish, vodoo, mysticism and cults – Anish Kapoor and Mariko Mori. Faith in the Hope of a Love / Believe in beauty, sex and death / Genitals of Flora (study) is example of my work that works like altar.

Porn, eroticism – Nobuyoshi Araki, politics and ideology – Riiko Sakkinen, Teemu Mäki, Regina Galindo and Marina Abramović – in art – people think that those are not interesting topics in art and simultaneously is said that most of internet is porn. And press and internet are fully booked up of politics and ideology from crazier and crazier points of views – from Anders Behring Breivik to Al-Qaida and climate change and the destruction of nature to banking crisis and new world order. And the machine which you read this text has price to nature and perhaps to completely different lifestyles having Africans and Chinese.

Psychology, philosophy, self-help, ark symbols and psychoanalysis in art.

Advertisement, products and logos in art.

Simple and complex ideas in art. Humor in art – Richard Prince and internet memes. Looking for new things in art. And seriality in art.

Connections between painting, photography and digital image making – but also installation, movie, performance, literature, music and reality. Differences, similarities and what is possible to tell and what is not with each medium. Is there something which has not been told (enough) and is there something that cannot been told regardless of the medium you want to use.
